Fernando Rull Pérez was born in Cúllar-Baza, in the province of Granda (Spain) in March 29th 1948, and is the founder and coordinator of Erica Research Group.
He studied physiscs and technical engineering in the University of Valladolid, and later obtained the PhD in Physics (1976), for what he was awarded with the Extraordinary Doctorate Award.
Since 1989 Fernando Rull is Chair Professor of Crystallography and Mineralogy in the University of Valladolid. Most of his scientific training was done in the Universities of Montpellier, Bradford and Copenhage. Doing several stays in diverse research centers across Europe, like Nancy, Sofia, Paris, London, Barcelona or Madrid.
Since 2000 he is Senior Researcher at Centro de Astrobiología, a research center belonging to the Spanish National Research Council and associated to the NASA Astrobiology Institute. Also, integrated in this center, Fernando Rull is Principal of the Associated Unit between University of Valladolid and the Spanish National Research Council.
Currently Fernando Rull is PI of RLS instrument of Exomars mission, and co-PI in Supercam instrument of Mars 2020 mission.
